Current Events

In 2003 the U.S restored their diplomatic relations with Libya even thought 189 Americans lost their lives in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing.  This attack was to be ruined by a Libyan Intelligence Agent.  About 26 lawsuits were filed by American families against Libya.  Bush wanted to restore friendship with Libya in 2003 when the President promised to stop weapons of mass destruction and reimburse families who lost loved ones on the flight.  After this Libya was taken off the list by the UN of being a sponsored terrorist state.  Libya had to pay 2.7 billion in order to help these families.
After the payments for the American families a government officer of Libya claimed that 3 Libyan citizens had lawsuits against America for President Reagan's airstrips that killed 41 of their people.  The U.S is reimbursing Libya bit not from government funding.  The people don't know where the money is coming from, but they are not happy with the situation that we became friends with Libya.  They feel it was because Bush wanted the presidents Oil and are not happy we are giving Libya money.

Italy had commercial interests there and at the same time Tripolitana and Cyrenaka were given to Italy.
