History of Libya 1258-1922

The Ottoman empire dominated Libya. Turkish control was predominant during the Ottoman rule. "Libya lies between Egypt to the east, Algeria and Tunisia to the west, Sudan to the south east, and Chad and Niger to the south". (Libya georgraphy ) The Janissaries became a big influence in Libya. The Sanussiy movement stretches throughout Libya and later they become an important role in the Libyan resistance movement. In 1911 Tripoli was attacked by the Italians and Libya was being liberated from Ottoman rule. The Libyan people were not pleased with the situation but the Sultan allowed the Italians to take Libya and they signed the 1912 Treaty of Lausanne.
